Oya Adventures: A Love Letter to Italy — and to Shoes

Oya Adventures: A Love Letter to Italy — and to Shoes

Italy is known for its breathtaking sights and rich culture — but for me, it’s something deeper. It’s about craftsmanship, heritage, and the quiet magic of shoemaking.

Where Oya Begins

In building Oya, I’ve been lucky to spend time in Italy — walking through leather ateliers, meeting artisans, and learning firsthand what makes Italian shoemaking so special. I’ve toured family-run factories, worked closely with designers, and felt the buttery softness of premium leathers that become the shoes we proudly offer.

These moments have shaped the soul of Oya — a brand dedicated to timeless, elegant shoes in sizes often overlooked.

Italian Inspiration Beyond the Workshop

Of course, Italy isn’t just about the shoes (even if they are the highlight!). Along the way, I’ve wandered through quiet art galleries, shared unforgettable meals with friends, and discovered hidden corners of cities that stay with you long after you leave.

With the European summer just beginning, I wanted to share a few of my favourite Italian moments — little sparks of inspiration for your next trip abroad.

Rome

  • Galleria Borghese for an incredible collection of art and sculpture from Caravaggio, Bernini, Titian, and other Italian masters. Save time to wander through the surrounding gardens.
  • Taverna Lucifero is an incredible truffle-based restaurant with generous and kind staff. The perfect spot to catch up with friends.
  • The Hoxton Hotel is located in a residential area with beautiful architecture, including the quirky Fountain of the Frogs a short walk away.

Milan

  • Fondazione Prada is a celebration of art and architecture, housed in a repurposed 1910s distillery.  It showcases art from contemporary artists like Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst, the editing studio of film director Jean-Luc Godard, and a cafe designed by Wes Anderson.
  • Orsonero Coffee, by far the best coffee I’ve ever had in Italy.
  • Pinacoteca di Brera has Italian masterpieces located in the stunning Palazzo Brera - recommend you book your spot online ahead of your visit.

Ischia

  • Ischia is an island getaway, a short ferry ride from Naples. It has several thermal baths, lovely beaches and picture-postcard views. The aperitivo at the stunning Mezzatore Hotel is not to be missed.

No Travel Plans? No Problem.

If Europe isn’t on your calendar this year, but you’re still craving timeless design, thoughtful craftsmanship, and a little Italian magic — Oya shoes are always here for you.

Each pair is a celebration of beauty, comfort, and confidence — made by hand in Italy, and designed for women who deserve nothing less.
